A cordial gin is crafted to reflect the values and properties of gin but is further sweetened by the addition of sugar or fruits such as sloe gin rather than sweetened by an adaptation of either the production process or impurities of the base spirit.


Cordial gins have two versions or strengths and have a minimum ABV of 30%. Firstly, for drinking neat and one with a high alcoholic content that is best used for mixing.


In the USA cordial gins are referred to as a liqueur having a predominant flavour characteristic of gin.
